Learning French is actually, easy

First of all, French is Romance Language which descended from Latin, so if you know other languages in that family which are Romanian, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian... but don't worry if you read this text on English, you will understand 28.3% of French which is a great beginning.

But how we are going to learn French, there are so many YouTube videos or resources etc. and once I was like you, so I think I might know the way to learn the French.

The same patterns are included in every language, having a motivation, clear path and immersion are the keys to success.

So, for French I'll recommend you different aspect of learning, it's old, gold and FREE.

There are books that designed for beginners and they are gradually increasing the language level in the text.

First book is Le Français Par La Méthode Nature (which directly translate as French with natural method, maybe you understand it and this would correct my argument if you know English, French would be similar). There are 50 chapters, it's gradually increasing the level and at the end of the chapter, there is exercise section. Learning is pretty straight-forward. 50 chapters, exercise at the end, images in each chapter in order to introduce new words; with those you can instantly start to learn. But there is a problem you may think, no audio, so how could you know the pronunciation, right? There is a YouTube channel called Ayan Academy and they created a series for this book. So, how you will work?

  1. Listen the audio, you can repeat the video or the sentence.
  2. Read every sentence out loud and try to translate it in your head.
  3. Do the exercises.

That's it.

After finishing that book you should look at Initiation à la Littérature Française .

Similar technique used by James Henry Worman:

  1. First French Book
  2. Second French Book
  3. Grammaire Française Pratique à L'usage Des Américains
  4. Le Questionnaire
  5. L'écho de Paris

For vocabulary learning, if you have a good reading habit you may not need the app I'll recommend but still I highly recommend you to use this app, Anki, it's FREE but on iOS you have to pay.

I used 2 decks and they are 1K words and 5K words (it'd be super helpful to leave a nice comment on Anki's Deck Page).

For Film & TV Series, just watch the content you like in French, there are some tricks; if you watch with French dublaj and subtitle: more progress than watching it with your native language subtitle... So recommendation would be you can rewatch the films&series you watched with the French dublaj and subtitle OR in the beginning you can watch films&series in French dublaj but with subtitle of your native language then you can switch it to French subtitles.

I won't recommend any Film or TV Series because of subjectiveness in art BUT there are some series specifically designed for foreigners to learn French and these are:

  1. French in Action
  2. Parlez moi
  3. Extra French

Podcasts I'll recommend you are:

  1. Dualingo Podcast - Apple - Google - Spotify
  2. InnerFrench Podcast - Apple - Spotify - YouTube
  3. Coffee Break French - Apple - Spotify - YouTube
